Welcome to Homestead School of Sandy Hook/ Newtown, CT

An equivalent to Homeschool, to an excellent Private School; affordable tuition.

Located up meandering lanes, adjacent to a 17 acre Land Trust, over 100 acres of wild open space additionally;

Operated in an egalitarian, open-ended, independence-oriented fashion;

Student-centered educational philosophy-- no imposed curriculum (see Sudbury Schools, Summerhill, Free Schools for comparable educational philosophy);

Enrollment open to all ages and grades, K-12. It is an age-mixing, all-age small school.

Homesteading, Permaculture Design (organic gardening/ landscaping), Natural Building, Animal Raising, Self-Sufficiency, small-scale Alternative Energy, other hands-on skills and activities will abound-- we will actually be Building the School, its Gardens, its environment-- together.

Students bring any, all of their intersts, curiosity, conversation, play, imaginations, Being to school. Content is not imposed by teachers, but Faculty and all other students are available as resources, and out-of-school apprenticeships, tutors, etc. can be arranged through fund-raiders, in-school Cooperatives, informal collectives within the school.

The school is open to all area residents-- there is full-time enrollment, part-time (to facilitate Homeschooling, for example), an an after-school option open to all.
